People must pay toll tax when traveling on the roadway, and they formerly had to pay in cash and receive a receipt. After that, in the last few years, new technology was introduced, and rather than paying in cash at toll plazas, toll tax was collected using FASTag. The FASTag system will be phased out soon, and toll collection will be handled using a satellite navigation system. The administration is currently putting the finishing touches on the new system’s implementation.

In Europe, a system for collecting toll taxes via satellite navigation has been implemented, and it has proven to be quite successful. In nations like Germany and Russia, toll collecting is done this way. Because of the success of this technique in European countries, it is being considered for implementation in India.

The tax will be calculated based on the distance traveled.
A trial project to collect toll tax from automobiles using a satellite navigation system is also ongoing in the country. The toll price will be calculated using this system based on the distance traveled by the vehicle on the highway.

The government has begun the trial process.
The central government has started certain critical tests in order to install this new toll collection system. The trial has enlisted the participation of 1.37 lakh automobiles from around the country. Maharashtra has 38,680 automobiles in the trial, Delhi has 29,705, Uttarakhand has 14,401, Chhattisgarh has 13,592, Himachal Pradesh has 10,824 vehicles, and Goa has 9,112 vehicles. In Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Sikkim, and Ladakh, one car is participating in the trial. With the support of some specialists from Russia and South Korea, the central government is compiling a study report.

What will the recovery look like?
The toll tax will begin as soon as your car enters the route or highway for which you’ll be charged a toll fee. Following that, as soon as you exit that road or highway, the number of km traveled by your car will be taken from your toll tax account.

In a broad sense, it’s similar to how, whenever you enter a subway station, the card you use to open the door is scanned, and the station you’re at is changed. have arrived at the station. Your fare is deducted based on the distance between these two stations when you show the card at the exit gate to exit.

There should be a change of policy.
According to sources in the media, a senior official from the Union Transport Ministry said that changing the transportation policy is required before implementing the new system. A group of experts is determining the things that need to be changed. This could be the subject of a report in the coming weeks.
