24 hours in 1 day, 60 minutes in 1 hour, and 270 children in every minute… At this pace, the world’s population will touch 8 billion in the year 2023. The population of the planet had surpassed 1 billion people at the start of the 19th century. But after just 220 years, the world’s population is going to be 8 billion. In 2011, there were more than 7 billion people on the planet.

So let us tell you today 5 reasons to move towards 8 billion on the occasion of World Population Day…

First, is the high birthrate between the 18th and 20th centuries.

The first reason behind this rapid pace of population is the increase in the birth rate. The birth rate was exceptionally high between the 18th and the end of the 20th century. Until about 250 years ago, a woman gave birth to an average of 6 children. For another 150 years, this condition continued. In 1950, there was a minor reduction in this. Each woman was giving birth to 5 children on average at that period. The birth rate has declined steadily since 1950, but in the meantime, a population explosion has arisen. Especially in Asia, where the population grew very rapidly in China and India. Today, on average, a woman in the world is giving birth to 2.5 children.

Due to the high birth rate, the world population grew rapidly after reaching 100 million in the early 19th century. It took 123 years for the world’s population to reach 200 million, in the year 1927, the world’s population reached the figure of 200 million. After that, in 1960, there were 300 million people on the planet. Once the world population crossed the 300 crore mark, after that every 100 crore population of the world went on increasing within just two decades. Learn how many years it took us to reach an 8 billion person population by looking at this table.

The second reason – increasing life expectancy

250 years ago, humans lived an average of only 28 years, but today the average age has increased to over 70 years. If we look at life expectancy, it is known that in the year 1770, the average age of people was only 28 years i.e. most humans would have died in 28 years. The average age of people in the world today is 72 years. Life expectancy has been increasing throughout the world since the 18th century. Today there are 30 countries where the average age of people is over 80 and 100 countries have an average age of over 70. In India, this figure is 69.7 years. The third reason – is the steady decrease in the death rate

One of the major reasons for the explosive boom in the world population is the rapidly declining death rate compared to the birth rate. Indeed, there has been a steady decline in the birth rate and death rate since 1950. If we assess the figures, it is known that 1000 people died in the year 1950, 20 people died, now this figure has come down to 8 in the year 2020. The birth rate is still far higher than the death rate, though. Using this table, determine how the death and birth rates compare.

The fourth reason – is the lack of information about contraception among women

In the past, little was known about contraceptives and methods of preventing pregnancy in women, leading to more unintended babies. This is the fourth major reason for population growth. In the progressive countries of Asia, Latin America, and Africa, only 9 percent of married couples used contraception in 1960. But by 1990, 1 out of every 2 married couples began using contraceptives to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Today women are very much aware of contraception. According to 2015 statistics, 64 percent of women now use contraceptives.

Fifth reason – a sharp decline in infant mortality rate

Improvement in infant mortality is the fifth leading cause of the world’s population of 8 billion. Compared to 1990, when 93 out of every 1000 children perished, the situation is now better. Today it has reached the lowest level. Only 37 children out of 1000 perished in the year 2020. However, the increase in the incidence of infant mortality depends heavily on the place of birth of the child. Even today, 79 out of 1000 children die in sub-Saharan Africa, while the situation in Europe and North America is not so bad. Here, only 6 children per 1000 die. It is number four in Australia and New Zealand.

Why, while the birth rate was falling, did the population grow so quickly?

Statistics show that in 1951, a woman delivered an average of 5 children. Now, this figure has come down to 2.5 in the year 2021. In the past 70 years, the birthrate has decreased by half. So now the question arises despite the birth rate being halved, how did the world population grow so fast? In fact, the birth rate tells only half the story of the population. When we look at the mortality rate, we find that it is now 7.60 deaths per 1000 people every year, while about 18 people are born per 1000 people every year. That is, the figure for the birth rate is more than 2 times the death rate. This is one of the main causes of population expansion.

India will be on top in terms of population… China’s population will be reduced to half

In the whole world today, 270 babies are born in 1 minute, which is 130 million in a year, soon the population of the whole world is going to be 8 billion, however by the year 2100, this number could rise to 11 billion. It was believed that within 3-4 years India would become the most populous country in the world. At the same time, a report by the World Economic Forum has claimed that by the end of this century, the population of both India and China will decline significantly. In the year 2100, there will be 1.09 billion people living in India. China will be in third place. At the same time, the population of Nigeria will be second in the world.
