Lumpy skin disease: Dairy farmers of Punjab are facing a crisis due to the spread of lumpy skin disease in milch animals. The Progressive Dairy Farmers Association (PDFA) of the state has said that due to this disease, there has been a 15 to 20 percent reduction in milk production in the state. This infectious disease spreads to cattle, especially cows.

1.26 lakh cattle affected
PDFA said that this has badly affected the farmers who are completely dependent on cattle for their livelihood. According to the data provided by the state animal husbandry department, 1.26 lakh cattle have been affected by this disease. So far more than 10 thousand cattle have died due to this disease. The PDFA claims that more than one lakh cattle have died in Punjab so far due to the lumpy skin disease.

In the major districts of the state affected by this disease, there has been a decrease of 15 to 20 percent in milk production. PDFA President Daljit Singh Sadarpura said that milk production in Punjab has come down by 15 to 20 percent due to the lumpy skin disease. Along with this, the average milk production of cows is also expected to remain low for one year.

Millions of animals have died in the past three months due to lumpy skin disease, a disease that originated in Pakistan. This dangerous and contagious virus that entered India via Pakistan is causing the death of animals. According to media reports, the lumpy disease has entered India from Punjab, Sindh, and Bahawalnagar of Pakistan.
