Mahindra, an Indian SUV manufacturer, has been selling over 40,000 vehicles per month for the past few months. In order to keep up with the growing demand, the corporation is likewise raising output. However, because of the enormous discrepancy between new reservations and production capability, the number of outstanding orders has also increased significantly. In the past few months, Mahindra has received 51,000 reservations on average per month. According to Mahindra & Mahindra’s ED and CEO of Auto and Farm Business, Rajesh Jejurikar, the company had 2.86 lakh units of pending orders as of November 1. The percentage of canceled reservations during periods of strong demand and growing wait times is 8%.
Number of unfulfilled orders
Mahindra has ten thousand reservations in advance for its XUV300 sub-4 meter SUV and XUV400 electric SUV. Up until November 1, 2023, there are 70,000 and 76,000 outstanding orders for the XUV700 and Thar lifestyle SUV, respectively. Currently, 11,000 orders for Bolero SUVs are pending. Customers’ response to the Mahindra Scorpio (N and Classic) has been overwhelmingly positive. For SUVs, there is a waiting time that extends beyond a year. The Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic models have over 1,19,000 units in the company’s backlog.
There will be more car deliveries in the future.
According to Rajesh Jejurikar, the company is planning to supply additional cars in the future, which will shorten the waiting time. Mahindra delivered 1,14,742 SUVs during the second quarter of this fiscal year (July to September 2023), a greater percentage than during the same time in the previous fiscal year.
Prepare in advance?
It is important to note that the business plans to launch the 5-door Thar lifestyle SUV and the redesigned XUV300 compact SUV in India soon. Additionally, the business is developing the Bolero of the future, which could debut in 2024–2025. In late 2024, Mahindra might potentially release the XUV.e8 electric SUV.
