Tuesday saw the publication of the safety ratings for two best-selling cars of Maruti Suzuki, the Alto K10 and WagonR. For adult safety, they both received ratings of 1 and 2, respectively. While both vehicles received a zero in the crash test for child occupant protection. In this circumstance, concerns about the safety of these popular Maruti Suzuki vehicles are being voiced. Maruti, however, said that the company’s automobiles met the safety standards established by the Indian government and did not place much weight on these safety ratings.
Let us inform you that a vehicle’s safety rating from Global NCAP ranges from 0 to 5 points.
The safest vehicles for passengers are those with a 5 star rating. According to the Global NCAP crash test, the Alto K10 performed averagely in terms of an adult’s head and chest injuries in a frontal collision. Yet, if a side accident causes a chest injury, its safety is inadequate. In the event of a head injury to the driver’s chest in an accident, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR performed poorly.
What did Alejandro Furas, Secretary General of Maruti Suzuki Global NCAP, say?
“We are pleased to hear from certain international and Indian automakers in a favorable manner. Yet, there has been a small improvement. The most popular Maruti Suzuki vehicle has not yet shown this dedication to safety, he said, stressing that six airbags are a requirement for new models sold in India. Popular Maruti Suzuki models do not demonstrate this level of devotion to safety.
In this regard, a Maruti Suzuki representative stated that
because governments worldwide are responsible for protecting their citizens, safety is a crucial issue that is the subject of rules. Safety has always been a primary focus for Maruti as well, the representative claimed. The accident safety regulations in India are essentially identical to those in Europe. All of our models are approved by the Indian government and comply with these standards.
