The IPL 2024 will begin play on March 22. Some teams’ ability to recover from injuries was still in doubt before this competition. Several players withdrew from the competition owing to injuries. This list also included the names of the Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians teams. Mohammed Shami, Gujarat’s best bowler, was injured and could not compete in the event. At the same time, Mumbai fast bowler Dilshan Madhushanka’s injury turned into a barrier. Both sides have now declared who would replace these players.

Who will take Shami’s place?

Mohammed Shami showed incredible form the previous year. Shami’s name was at the top of the list of bowlers who got the most wickets in the 2023 Indian Premier League. In addition, he destroyed his opponents in the World Cup and maintained his position as the leading wicket-taker. However, he sustained a severe injury in the interim and needed surgery recently. He is therefore not participating in the T20 World Cup or the IPL. Instead of Mohammed Shami, Gujarat has brought Sandeep Warrier into the team for the IPL. Sandeep debuted in the 2021 Indian Premier League and has since participated in five games.

Dilshan Madhushanka sustained an injury during the Bangladesh series. He then left the IPL as well. Mumbai has substituted Kwena Mafaka, a 17-year-old South African bowler, for Madhushanka in the squad. Details regarding the substitution of both players are available on the official IPL account.

The IPL 2024 released a statement with details on both players. ‘Gujarat has added 32-year-old Sandeep Warrier as Shami’s substitute,’ the text stated. Shami is recuperating after a successful heel surgery that she had lately. Warrier paid a base salary of Rs 50 lakh to join the squad. However, Madhushanka was disqualified from the upcoming season due to injury. Left-arm fast bowler Mafaka has become a part of Mumbai with a base price of Rs 50 lakh.
