Doctors Day 2022: National Doctors Day is celebrated every year to recognize the role and contribution of doctors in people’s lives and communities. Different countries celebrate this day on different dates, but in India, National Doctor’s Day is celebrated on 1 July and is organized annually by the Indian Medical Association (IMA).

The day not only gives us an opportunity to mark the sacrifices made by doctors and healthcare workers, but it also reminds all of us about the noble profession that saves millions of lives across the globe. The day was first observed to honor Dr. BC Roy, former Chief Minister of West Bengal, and to acknowledge his contribution to society. Since then, it has become a trend and it is celebrated on the 1st of July every year in India.

Importance of doctors’ day
In India, we celebrate National Doctors Day to express our gratitude and gratitude to the doctors who work day and night to keep us healthy. Also, in this pandemic, the world saw the role of doctors and health workers who risked their lives to save millions of lives. The day is significant because it gives us all a chance to celebrate and rejoice in the spirit and dedication of physicians around the world.

Doctors day history
It was first celebrated in 1991 to honor Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, who was also the Chief Minister of Bengal at that time. The day is observed to acknowledge the extraordinary contribution made by Dr. BC Roy to the medical fraternity in his medical career. Meanwhile, every year, Doctor’s Day is celebrated on March 30 in the United States, December 3 in Cuba, and August 23 in Iran, in other countries they celebrate this day on different dates.

Doctors Day 2022 | Who was Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy?
Born on July 1, 1882, DR BC Roy was one of the prominent freedom fighters as well as a highly respected doctor who was also awarded the Bharat Ratna on February 4, 1961. Roy played an important role in the establishment of medical institutions like Jadavpur TB. Hospital, Chittaranjan Seva Sadan, Kamala Nehru Memorial Hospital, Victoria Institution (College), Chittaranjan Cancer Hospital, and Chittaranjan Seva Sadan for Women and Children.
