Manila. Strong earthquake tremors were felt in the Philippines today. The epicenter of the earthquake was 14 km southeast of Dolores, Philippines. The tremors of the earthquake were felt in Manila, more than 300 kilometers away. According to the US Geological Survey, buildings around the epicenter had windows smashed in them. However, no casualties have been reported so far in the earthquake. After the earthquake, there was no tsunami warning either.
The tremors were felt at 8:43 a.m. (0043 GMT) in the mountainous and sparsely populated province of Abra on the main island of Luzon, the US Geological Survey said. The onset of the earthquake was measured at 6.8 on the Richter scale. However, after a while, the intensity was 7.1.
Metro Manila, Bulacan, and Oriental Mindoro provinces also experienced tremors. However, as of yet, no information regarding any losses or damage has been received.
There was also an earthquake in May
Several aftershocks have been felt in the Philippines in just a few months. Another earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale struck Bungahan, Philippines, on May 22 at 9:50 p.m. (local time). However, there is no news of any damage to this. The quake struck 1 km east-northeast of Bungahan, with its epicenter at a depth of 129.0 km, initially determined at 13.9517 degrees north latitude and 120.6771 degrees east longitude, Xinhua news agency reported.

Why does an earthquake happen?
Earth is mainly made up of four layers. The inner core, outer core, mantle, and crust. The term “lithosphere” refers to the crust and upper mantle core. This 50 km thick layer is divided into several segments, which are called tectonic plates. These tectonic plates continue to vibrate where they are. When this plate vibrates a lot, an earthquake is felt.
