On GST, FM Nirmala Sitharaman had informed after the GST meeting that from July 18, the prices of many things will increase. The prices of the items fixed from July 18 have also been changed. But in the meantime, apart from things like flour, rice, and pulses, the Finance Minister has given big information, clearing the confusion among the people about the GST on the hospital. Bed or ICU.

Finance Minister gave information

Actually, now Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has given clarification in Rajya Sabha on the decision to impose GST on hospital beds. According to the finance minister, the government has not put a tax on hospital beds or intensive care units. Rather, GST has been levied only on such hospital rooms whose rent is Rs 5,000 per day. Responding to the protest on inflation in the Rajya Sabha, the Finance Minister said these things.

ongoing protest

In fact, treatment in hospitals has already become expensive. This was followed by the 47th meeting of the GST Council on June 28-29 for non-ICU rooms with rent above Rs 5,000 per day. It was decided to levy 5% GST on this. After this, this new rule has come into effect on 18 July 2022. But after this, the decision is being criticized continuously. The Finance Minister clarified the public’s uncertainty before this by sending out multiple tweets. The Finance Minister has once more provided his explanation of this.

demand to withdraw the decision

Significantly, from the healthcare industry to hospital associations and other stakeholders are constantly demanding the government withdraw this decision. In fact, they argue that the decision to impose GST on hospital beds will make it costly for people to get treatment. Along with this, many compliance issues will arise before the healthcare industry as the healthcare industry was still now exempted from GST. Following this, the healthcare sector may find itself in a variety of catastrophic situations.

Know what will be the effect of GST

For example, suppose a day’s rent for a hospital bed is Rs 5,000, then Rs 250 will have to be paid as GST. Now if a patient has to stay in the hospital for 4 days, then instead of 5000 plus GST 250. 20,000, the room rent will be Rs 21,000, according to this, the more patients stay in the hospital, they will have to pay more money per day.
