Aadhaar and the electoral roll will be connected prior to the general elections in 2024. The Central Election Commission has set a target of voluntarily collecting Aadhaar numbers from 100% of voters by March 31, 2023, by running a campaign.

Citizens themselves can also fill out Form-6B and submit it before April 1, 2023. No voter’s information would be erased from the list due to Aadhaar submission failure, though. According to the Law Ministry, Aadhaar information is voluntary.

Action on polling officer for data leak
The Election Commission has warned the Voter Registration Officers (EROs) that strict action will be taken against them if the forms given by citizens to link Aadhaar cards with the electoral rolls are leaked. The Commission has developed an online module to monitor this campaign. All state CEOs are required to submit an online status report on the constituency-specific campaign.

Ajay Kumar, Principal Secretary of the Commission said that with this decision the identity of the voter will be established. Also, authentication of information included in the electoral roll, registration of the same person in more than one constituency or more than one identification can be done.

Door to door connectivity campaign will be launched
The Principal Secretary of the Commission has told that training of personnel will be held in July. Awareness programs will be organized from August 1 to December 31. Additionally, a program for a door-to-door outreach campaign will be developed and put into action. In a letter sent to the Chief Electoral Officers of all the states and union territories, the commission has said that they can organize camps at the cluster level and motivate voters to give Aadhaar numbers. Also, it can be said that this will help in better services and voter list authentication in the future.
