The government said on Wednesday that, as part of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKAY), it is giving free food grains to over 80 crore people for a year, beginning on January 1, 2023. No-cost food grains
The Centre is “providing free food grains to the beneficiaries of Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) families and Priority Households (PHH) under PMGKAY for a period of one year starting from January 1, 2023,” according to an official statement from the food ministry. The Centre made the decision in December of last year to combine PMGKAY with the National Food Security Act (NFSA), which was introduced in order to offer more food grains at no cost in 2020.
