Apple on Monday unveiled two brand-new iPad models: the 10.5-inch iPad Air and the 7.9-inch iPad mini. This was an unexpected move ahead of its anticipated debut of a video streaming service next week.
The new iPad mini and iPad Air include keyboard support for the first time, and they are available in silver, space grey, and gold finishes with 64GB and 256GB storage options.
The 10.5-inch iPad Air starts at $499 for the Wi-Fi model and $629 for the Wi-Fi And Cellular variant, according to the firm. The new iPad mini starts at $399 for the Wi-Fi model and $529 for the Wi-Fi plus Cellular model.
India will receive the devices later.
The new iPad Air has twice the graphics power and a 70% performance jump thanks to the A12 Bionic CPU with Apple’s Neural Engine. The enhanced Retina display with “True Tone” technology is approximately 20% bigger and has over half a million more pixels.
The A12 Bionic chip, which offers three times the performance and nine times faster graphics, is also found in the 7.9-inch iPad mini.
The most sophisticated Retina display on an iPad features True Tone technology, wide color support, and a 25% increase in brightness.
Both gadgets are compatible with the Apple Pencil.
According to Phil Schiller, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, “the iPad family takes two big leaps forward with an all-new 10.5-inch iPad Air that brings high-end size, features, and performance at a breakthrough price, and a significant upgrade to the 7.9-inch iPad mini that also brings the Apple Pencil, Retina display, and the A12 Bionic chip to the many customers who love its compact size.”
According to the business, there are more than 1.3 million iPad-specific apps available, including interactive AR experiences, drawing apps for the Apple Pencil, and social networking apps.
The iPad mini and iPad Air have cutting-edge front and rear cameras that enable them to take high-definition pictures and videos and to edit 4K movies quickly and easily.
On March 25, Apple will hold a presentation at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California, where it is anticipated to introduce a new Apple news service and a Netflix-like video streaming service.
