Under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, the government intends to raise the insurance coverage from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh (Ayushman Bharat Yojana). In addition, this coverage may total up to Rs 15 lakh for women. Under the project, an additional four lakh beds are planned for private hospitals. According to a report in The Indian Express, the Union Health Ministry wants to boost the number of beneficiaries from 55 crore to 100 crore during the third term of the NDA government.

A group of government officials (GoS) has worked on setting targets and timelines for achieving them for the next five years. The report of this group has given a list of important action points. This group, which includes nine ministries including health, AYUSH, sports, culture, and education, is expected to make a presentation to the Cabinet Secretary soon.

Benefits reach 12.34 crore families.

Up to Rs 5 lakh in yearly health coverage is provided to 12.34 million families, comprising approximately 55 crore participants, under this policy. Each of these families belongs to the nation’s poorest 40% of people. 7.37 crore persons have been approved for hospitalization under the program as of June 30. They have cost us Rs 1 lakh crore in total. The BJP attributes the NDA government’s success to this program. In addition, the party’s manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections included a commitment to expand the scheme’s scope so that all residents over 70 would benefit from it.
