Airlines say that due to rising ATF prices and the depreciating rupee, they are left with no option but to increase fares.
With aviation fuel (ATF) prices reaching a record high, it is now going to have an impact on air travel. Due to the increase in the price of ATF (ATF Price Hike), airlines are now preparing to increase the fare. Airlines say that due to rising ATF prices and the depreciating rupee, they are left with no option but to increase fares.
so much increase in one year
Ajay Singh, CMD of private airline SpiceJet, believes that it has become necessary to increase fares by at least 10-15 percent to maintain operations. He said aviation fuel prices have increased by more than 120 percent since June 2021. This huge growth is not tolerated. The central and state governments should immediately reduce the tax on ATF, which is the highest in the world. He said that the airlines have made every effort to handle the burden of rising ATF prices during the last few months, but now it is not possible to do so.
rent can increase so much
SpiceJet CMD said, “We have tried to handle the increased cost on our own during the last few months. ATF is more than 50 percent of our operating cost. At the same time, the Indian rupee is falling sharply against the dollar. Airlines are also facing problems due to this. Due to the sharp rise in aviation fuel prices and depreciation of the rupee, we will have to increase fares immediately. At present, there is a need to increase the airfares by at least 10-15 percent.
Price doubled this year
Actually, on Thursday, once again the prices of aviation fuel increased. Now the price of ATF in Delhi has increased by 16.3 percent to Rs 1.41 lakh per kiloliter. This is the highest rate of ATF to date. ATF prices have almost doubled this year alone, while its price has risen 91 percent in the past six months. In January this year, the ATF price was just Rs 72,062 per kiloliter.
