The previous pension system is still a topic of discussion in several states across the nation. A significant update concerning the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) has recently surfaced. Currently, many states in the nation still use the outdated pension system. Meanwhile, the urgent implementation of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) has been urged by a combined forum of engineers and employees of the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB).
Pension update – The proposal to transfer the generation
and transmission assets of HPSEB to HPPCL (Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation) and HPPTCL (Himachal Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation), respectively, have also been met with opposition by the forum.
1.18 lakh individuals choose the old pension
We’re here to tell you that only 346 employees in Himachal Pradesh want to continue receiving benefits from the NPS. A little more than 1.18 lakh workers have chosen the OPS or Old Pension Scheme. The final opportunity to select between the Old Pension Scheme and the New Pension Scheme was on Monday. The government gave the Himachal Pradesh employees two months’ leave on May 4.
Statement made
A resolution covering the main demands was approved during the United Front conference on Monday, according to the statement made here. It was emphasized that neither the employees’ interests nor the interests of energy consumers are served by the split of HPSEB’s assets.
The United Front expressed grave worry
over the transfer of four small hydroelectric projects from HPSEB to HPPCL, stating that this would cause a two-year execution delay for the projects as they are at an advanced level.
Opposition to the proposal for smart meters
The Morcha vehemently opposed the smart metering project that HPSEB was planning to implement as part of the RDSS (Reconstructed Distribution Sector Scheme) and claimed that it would further harm HPSEB’s financial situation in another resolution.
