The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has labeled statements claiming that plastics completely degrade are “misleading advertisements.” Additionally, it has been urged that the Ministry of Environment refrain from granting this certificate to any company that manufactures plastic. According to BIS Director General Pramod Kumar Tiwari, plastic is not entirely perishable. Such a claim by a manufacturer would be seen as deceptive advertising.
Ongoing in numerous nations, including India
According to Tiwari, “The fact that plastics have been completely destroyed has not yet been established.” In several nations, including India, research in this area is currently ongoing. The Environment Ministry shouldn’t grant a certificate of complete plastic elimination in such a case. He claimed that the BIS’s view that plastic is a perishable product was conveyed during a recent meeting with Ministry of Environment officials.
“Some plastic manufacturers are claiming that
their plastic products are biodegradable,” remarked BIS Director General. We advised the ministry to refrain from issuing any such document while this area of research is still being investigated.
