This information is relevant to you if you have a ration card and use the government’s inexpensive or free ration programs. During its third term, the Modi government has provided ration card holders with significant respite. The government has again extended the deadline for linking Aadhaar and ration cards (Aadhaar-Ration Card Link). This time, a three-month extension has been granted by the administration. The deadline for integrating Aadhaar with a ration card was formerly June 30, which has been moved up to September 30. The Department of Food and Public Distribution has sent out a notification about this.
Does the Ration Card and Aadhaar need to be linked?
It is now required to link the ration card with Aadhaar, as per the government’s announcement of the ‘One Nation-One Ration Card’. The administration has been informed that ration card holders are using several ration cards to access free rations from various locations. To stop this, emphasis is being placed on connecting the Aadhaar card with the ration card. In addition to this, many deceased people’s ration cards are still being used to get rations. The government has made connecting it to Aadhaar mandatory to halt all of this. In reality, BPL families receive inexpensive food and kerosene oil from the Modi administration at the Center.
There have already been multiple extensions to the deadline.
The government is making an effort to curb corruption and anomalies by connecting Aadhaar and ration cards. We would like to inform you that the government has previously extended the deadline for linking ration cards with Aadhaar on multiple occasions. It is been extended once more, this time to September 30. It will be simpler for the government to monitor whether or not everyone in need is receiving their fair share of food grains by connecting Aadhaar and ration cards.
There won’t be a ration beyond June.
Earlier, the government set June 30, 2024, as the deadline for integrating Aadhaar and ration card. According to a media report, if the ration card and Aadhaar are
not linked by the stipulated date, the beneficiaries will not get the benefit of cheap ration and free ration from July 1. But now when the last date has been extended by the government by three months i.e. till 30 September, then the eligible beneficiaries will continue to get the benefit of ration.
What is the strategy for free rations?
The Indian government started the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKY) during the Covid-19 pandemic. It’s a government program for food security. By offering food at reasonable prices, this program seeks to give low-income and impoverished households food security. Eligible families receive five kilograms of free wheat or rice each month under this program. The deadline for this program has been extended to December 31, 2028, 2023. The program is available to families who are in compliance with the National Food Security Act of 2013 and have ration cards. Sections that are especially vulnerable have been included, including Antyodaya, widows, the crippled, and older folks.
