Cybercrime is a significant issue. To stop this, the government keeps coming up with fresh initiatives. The Indian government had petitioned Google to take down fraudulent lending apps from the Play Store in this series. In response to this appeal, Google has taken off over 2,500 apps that promote fraudulent loans from the Play Store. The period covered by this action is April 2021–July 2022. Low interest rates and simple loans are typically offered by fraudulent loan applications. But these apps are used to unlawfully collect money from users.
Nirmala Sitharaman provided details.
In the Lok Sabha, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that the government was constantly preparing to take action against these apps. Google has taken out 2,500 apps related to fraudulent loans from the Play Store in this series. Under the pretense of offering loans, these apps were defrauding users. The FSDC meeting included a discussion of this action as well. An organization that works on cyber security is called FSDC. This group had requested that Google and the government work together on this issue.

“Nirmala Sitharaman continued. Google had received this list from the government. It was discovered that app shops were being used to disseminate these 2,500 fraudulent loan apps. Google decided to delete these apps for this reason.
3550 apps were found to be fraudulent.
Google has revised its loan-giving app policy. This new policy will apply to all loan-giving apps that are listed on the Play Store. Google was informed by the authorities that many of the loan-giving apps on the Play Store are fake. Through these apps, people were being duped into believing they were giving loans. After looking into this complaint, Google discovered that over 3500 of the loan-giving applications were fake. Of these, it was decided to immediately remove about 2500 apps.
