What Variant Is Responsible For The New Cases?
COVID will endure. The virus will evolve and reappear, this time stronger — The expert’s advice to proceed with caution is really coming true. Since the beginning of the pandemic three years ago, multiple fatal and contagious COVID-19 variants and subvariants have become more prevalent. The XBB.1.16 sub-variant of the XBB strain of COVID-19 is currently responsible for many of the new cases in India (a combination of Omicron and its sub-variants). The COVID-19 strain that is now circulating throughout the world is the XBB.1.16 variation. It can avoid vaccine-induced immunity thanks to various mutations in the spike protein.
India: Prepared for the Next COVID Wave?
The Indian government has encouraged states to conduct mock drills to guarantee the operational readiness of hospital infrastructure, including oxygen cylinders, PSA plants, ventilators, and human resources. This advice comes in response to the abrupt increase in daily COVID-19 figures. To assess the nations’ readiness to address any additional COVID outbreak in the next few days, a virtual meeting was held. Also, the center has recommended states and UTs avoid becoming complacent and follow through on the priorities outlined in the joint advice released today by the Departments of Health Research and Health and Family Welfare on March 25, 2023.
