Indian Railway Rules: Due to economical and comfortable train travel, the number of rail passengers is increasing day by day. On long journeys, people prefer to travel by flights or superfast trains. Many times travelers forget their essential items like mobile, purse, laptop, charger or luggage bag, etc. But hardly do you know what is done with these goods from the railway side?

You can get the valuables back from the railways.
Yes, if you know the rules then you can also get your valuables left in the train back. According to the rules of the Railways, there is a complete process of transporting the remaining goods in the trains to their original owners. Let us know about it in detail.

let us
Let us tell you that after every train reaches its destination station, the staff of the station checks the empty train along with an officer of the Railway Protection Force. In this checking, keeping in mind the safety of the vehicle, it is also seen that no essential luggage of any passenger is left on the seat.

The matter which remains with the station master,
If any item is found, it is deposited with the station master concerned. In addition, receipt of any unclaimed or unbooked baggage in the train or at the station is taken and the same is submitted to the Station Master.

Goods are entered into the property register
Property deposited by RPF or other railway employees is entered in the register of lost assets. Here a record is kept of the details of that item like the name of the item, weight, estimated value, etc. If any box or trunk is found, an inventory of its belongings is made in the presence of the Railway Protection Force or Railway Police. There are three copies of the list. The first copy is kept in the second box in the register of goods and the third with the Railway Protection Force. The box is then sealed.

Procedure for returning lost items
If any person is approached for the property lost and it is to the satisfaction of the Station Master, the goods are returned to that person. The full address of the claimant is recorded in the Register of Lost Property. After receiving the goods from the railway, the signature of the claimant is also done in the register.

Station master’s right to refuse the pass
If the claimant is suspected to be the original owner, the Station Master may refuse to hand over the goods. After this, the matter goes to the Divisional Commercial Superintendent. Goods are returned here only after a thorough check.

The rule of taking things back to the original owner
The second rule is that the station master should make efforts to bring the lost property to its rightful owner. The name or identification information etc. on any item makes it easy to reach its owner.

Item has been sent to the Lost Property Office
When baggage is handed over to the passenger after departure from the station or train without sending it to the Lost Property Office, no fee is charged to the passengers. Such packages should be returned to the passengers at no charge. After baggage is lost or abandoned, the Station Master keeps it under his supervision for 7 days. It is then sent to the Lost Property Office.
