If you have an LPG connection as well, you need to be aware of this upgrade. In the last nine years, a nationwide record 17 crores of additional LPG connections have been distributed. With this, the country’s total LPG users have increased to 31.26 crores. According to official statistics, there were 14.52 crore active household LPG consumers in April 2014. In March 2023, this figure grew to 31.36.
Previously, LPG cylinders could be ordered within 7–10 days.
The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), which increased the number of consumers by a record amount, is to blame. This programme has improved LPG coverage, which was 62 per cent in 2016 to 104.1 per cent in 2022. It used to take time to get a new LPG connection. Liquefied petroleum gas cylinders were delivered in 7–10 days. LPG hookup is further available whenever needed. The cylinder typically arrives within a day as well.
5 kilogramme of fuel was launched
In addition to the customary 14.2 kg cylinder, government sellers have also produced a 5 kg cylinder for those clients who have limited needs or limited purchasing power. In order to provide free cooking gas connections to every low-income family, PMUY was introduced on May 1, 2016, and by January 30, 2023, 9.58 crore connections had been released as part of the programme.

Ujjwala 2.0 was introduced with the intention of adding an extra one crore Liquefied petroleum gas connections and bringing the remaining families under PMUY. Due to the overwhelming number of applications, the government decided to provide 60 lakh extra connections under this goal after it was reached on January 31, 2022.
