The AAP government introduced the Mahila Samman Yojana, which will provide Rs 1000 monthly to women in Delhi, with a potential increase to Rs 2100 if the party wins the 2019 elections.
Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on December 12 that every woman above the age of 18 in the national capital will receive Rs 1000 per month through a new welfare programme called the Mahila Samman Yojana.
This organization seeks to provide financial assistance to women, particularly those from impoverished backgrounds. Beneficiaries would initially receive Rs 1000 per month, which will climb to Rs 2100 per month if the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) returns to power in the forthcoming elections.
The 70-member Delhi Assembly elections are expected to take place in February 2025, although the Election Commission has yet to issue the exact dates. The current assembly term expires on February 23, 2025. This statement comes as the ruling Aam Aadmi Party seeks a third term in office.
Previously, the AAP administration planned a project called the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana in the 2024-25 budget, with a Rs 2000 crore investment.
However, implementation has been delayed due to budgetary limits identified by the Finance Department and other bureaucratic roadblocks. Kejriwal stated his commitment to launching the initiative and promised to increase the monthly amount if re-elected.
Eligibility: –
The initiative is aimed toward women aged 18 to 60, however, there are stringent eligibility requirements. Women who work for the government, are retirees, or file income tax returns (ITR) are not eligible. Furthermore, women who own businesses or do not live in Delhi are not eligible to apply. Eligibility needs proof of residence in Delhi, such as an Aadhaar card or voter ID.
Kejriwal emphasized that the plan intends to improve the quality of life for women in Delhi, particularly those from economically challenged families. With this declaration, AAP emphasizes its commitment to women’s welfare while using the scheme as a key component of its election strategy. The program underscores the party’s commitment to addressing economic issues for women in the capital.
