Former MCD Mayor Jai Prakash stated that once the procedure gets underway, LG would provide its approval about the date and time of the first general meeting. It will be selected who will preside over that general assembly.
On December 7, the results of the MCD Mayor were announced in Delhi, and the Election Commission sent out notifications to each of the winning candidates. The central government then announced the formation of 12 zones in Delhi and decided which councillor would represent each zone in a notification.
Following this, the corporate secretary will send a letter to the LG stating when the corporation must be created and directed that the procedure should begin.
LG shall choose the date for the inaugural general meeting.
Former Mayor Jai Prakash stated that once the procedure gets underway, the LG will provide its approval about the date and time of the first general meeting.
It will be selected who will preside over that general assembly. The Lieutenant Governor also selects the presiding officer, who will be the most senior corporator among the currently elected councillors.
At the civic centre, the presiding officer will administer the oath to all new councillors.
If there are multiple candidates for mayor, voting will be used to choose the winner of the MCD Mayor
The mayor will be chosen concurrently, following the conclusion of the oath procedure. With 134 seats this time around in the MCD elections, the Aam Aadmi Party has overtaken the BJP to become the largest opposition force.
Because of this, AAP will nominate a candidate for mayor, while BJP is also free to do so. If just one party declares a candidate, that person will be elected mayor without a race, but if two parties declare a candidate, there will be a race.
All those who took the oath during this election will be entitled to.
