E-commerce enterprises are having issues as a result of the nationwide campaign being waged against fraudulent GST registration. There are no books of accounts and these businesses operate their offices digitally with minimal personnel in various locations. Vice-President of the Make My Trip group Tajinder Singh stated to PTI that investigations with the head offices regarding offices working digitally will be done before labeling such registered offices in states as phony businesses for failing to provide books of accounts to GST officials.

The regional offices have accepted these offices as part of the false registration effort. We were simply using these offices, though, to pay our taxes. By using their registrations, there was no fraud or ITC (Input Tax Credit) flow. As a result, numerous registrations were “blocked” for compliance reasons. For us, this has been problematic.

The campaign to combat fake GST registration

was started by the Central and State GST administrations on May 16. By falsely claiming ITC, the fake registration is primarily utilized to harm the exchequer.

In this campaign, 45,000 false registrations have been found

and Rs 13,000 crore in tax evasion has been found. Additionally, ITC worth Rs. 1,430 crore was incorrectly ‘blocked’. According to Singh, the regional offices should be aware that the digital office has a relatively small staff and that they do not all work there every day. It has just been put up to adhere to the State GST law and not to improperly claim ITC.

Shashank Priya, a member of the GST Central Board of Indirect Taxes

responded when asked about the issues facing e-commerce businesses, “One thing we are advising is that wherever you have set up a digital office.” However, a fake registrant and an e-commerce operator are not all that dissimilar.

The people there frequently claim that we don’t have the records when the officers arrive. close to the main office. Therefore, suspicion is raised. In order for them to be satisfied that you are the legitimate registrant, he added, “Since there is a need to keep the records at the place of registration, there should be an electronic means of bringing the records and showing them.”
