The Mobile Number Portability (MNP) regulations have been modified by the Telecom Regularity Authority of India (TRAI). Let us inform you that the MNP facility has undergone nine changes since it was first established in 2009. You will not be able to move your cell number to another network under this new regulation if you recently switched SIM cards. To move their cellphone number to a different network, customers would now need to wait seven days. According to TRAI, these modifications are being made to shield consumers from fraud, including online fraud. Customers will feel more secure as a result. Allow us to get into more depth about it.
SIM swap: what is it?
If you’ve ever misplaced your SIM card or the SIM is damaged, then in such a situation you go to your telecom operator and get the SIM replaced. This process is called SIM swap. After seven days, you can port your SIM card.
You will not be able to switch your number to another network
for at least 7 days following a SIM exchange, under the new TRAI regulations. The telecom operators would not be able to provide the consumer with a Unique Porting Code (UPC) if he has switched SIM cards during the previous seven days. The UPC is the code that allows you to switch your mobile number to a different network. To prevent someone else from obtaining a new SIM card in your name, you must wait a full seven days.
Why was this modification made?
The purpose of this modification is to stop spam and fraud. According to TRAI, this will make the process of transferring a mobile number secure and ensure that there is no fraud of any type. You can replace your card at the store of your telecom operator if it is missing or malfunctioning. You will need to present a legitimate form of identification for this.
