The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has mandated the following list of October 2025 bank holidays, along with state-by-state dates and a calendar that you can use.

It’s critical to monitor bank holidays as October 2025 draws near, particularly those announced by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), in order to schedule your financial transactions, branch visits, and other banking-related activities.

The RBI’s Function and Source for Bank Holidays

Every year, the RBI releases a holiday calendar that specifies when all banks—public, private, cooperative, rural, and local area banks—must stay closed. National, gazetted, festival, and regional holidays are among them. (The main source of information about branch closures is the RBI’s official holiday notices.)

The RBI requires shutdown each month on:

  • Every Sunday
  • Saturdays the second and fourth

According to RBI standards, these are typical non-working days for banks across the country.

According to their holiday calendar, RBI also acknowledges regional festival holidays, which are applicable in particular states, and gazette holidays, which are applicable in many or all states.

Important Bank Holidays in October 2025 (Highlights of the RBI Calendar)

A carefully selected list of the major bank holidays in October 2025 is provided below, derived from state-by-state schedules that comply with RBI regulations and compilations based on RBI data.

Additionally, there may be state-specific festivals and regional holidays on dates like Maha Navami, Vijayadashami, and Bhai Dooj that are listed on the RBI holiday list for those states. For instance:

  • Many states, including Bihar, Karnataka, Kerala, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and others, celebrate Maha Navami on October 1, 2025.
  • According to calendars linked with the RBI, states such as Gujarat, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh observe Bhai Dooj (October 23) as a holiday.

How to Plan and What This Means for You

  • Physical branches will be closed on these bank holidays. Plan ahead, preferably before the previous working day, if you require services like significant cash withdrawals, passbook changes, or check deposits.
  • Many ATM services and digital banking (online banking, smartphone apps) are available even when branches are closed. However, it will affect in-person inquiries, branch-based services, and check clearing.
  • According to RBI and banking regulations, most banks move processing to the following working day when a financial deadline (such as a deposit maturity, recurring draw, or payment due date) falls on a holiday.
