Two weeks after unconfirmed cases were found in Maharashtra and Gujarat, India has reported the first confirmed case of Omicron sub-variant XE of the coronavirus. This is the first time that the case of Omicron’s sub-variant XE has been confirmed by the Indian SARS Cov2 Genomics Sequencing Consortium (INSACOG). However, even after the first case of Omicron’s sub-variant was confirmed by INSACO, experts say there is no need to panic.

Sample not confirmed

A report in the English newspaper The Indian Express said that although this has not been confirmed yet, the samples were taken from where the sub-variant XE of Omicron has been confirmed. In the earlier unconfirmed cases of XE found in two states Maharashtra and Gujarat, it is not yet clear whether the sample from Maharashtra was included, an official said.

BA.2 10 percent more infectious than

It has been written in the report quoting experts that so far no evidence has been found that the XE variant is different from the infection caused by other sub-variants of the corona of Omron. He said the new sub-variant XE was found to be only 10 percent more infectious than Omicron’s current dominant sub-variant BA.2, which was responsible for bringing the third wave of the corona to India during January.

Rapidly increasing cases in 12 states

The first case of Omicron’s sub-variant XE has been confirmed in INSACO’s weekly bulletin at a time when 12 states in the country are reporting a rapid increase in cases of virus infection. In view of the increase in new cases, wearing face masks and following corona rules has been made mandatory in these states.

2,568 new cases of corona registered in the last 24 hours

According to the data released by the Ministry of Health on Tuesday morning, 2,568 new cases of corona have been reported in India during the last 24 hours. During this, about 2,911 people were found infection-free. However, during the last 24 hours, about 20 people have died due to corona infection. The number of active cases in the country has reached 19,137.
