The use of the “Yezdi” trademark by Classic Legends has been banned by a court order. At the time when Yezdi was only beginning to establish recognition. According to the court’s decision, Ideal Jawa’s official liquidator (OL) stands to be the rightful owner of the Yezdi trademark name. Ideal Jawa Employees Association filed a lawsuit to stop the use of the Yezdi trademark. Although the Karnataka High Court has forbidden Classic Legends from using the name Yezdi. The company is seeking legal counsel and will soon file an appeal.

Jawa launched the Yezdi motorcycles

in January 2022 after its debut in 2018. Yezdi currently has three bikes under its name – the Yezdi Roadster, Scrambler, and Adventure. For Classic Legends, whose mission is to restore great motorcycle brands, these developments represent a disadvantage.

End of Yezdi?

The legal developments may have disappointed some fans, but Classic Legends has guaranteed that sales and manufacturing will go on as usual. “Subject to an order of the Appellate Court,” will apply. Classic Legends plans to appeal the ruling in the hopes of obtaining a favorable outcome. The case is a little difficult because it started in 1960, the year Ideal Jawa (India) was founded. Yezdi trademark registration was approved in 1969. While Yezdi had a sizable fan base and enjoyed its good days, the corporation eventually began to experience existential problems in the 1980s. As a result, the business made the decision to cease operations in 1991. In 2001, an Official Liquidator was chosen to oversee the winding-up process.

The Yezdi trademark expired and was taken down

by the Trademark Registry because the corporation neglected to pay the renewal fee. Other improvements were happening simultaneously, such as the 1998 debut of the Yezdi website. The Yezdi trademark was registered in the trademark offices in Mumbai, Delhi, and Ahmedabad later in 2013 and 2014.

Mr. Boman Irani, the party claiming ownership of the Yezdi trademark in this matter, completed all of these registrations. Since the Yezdi trademark had almost no financial value attached to it in 2013, it appears that no one cared to file a complaint at that time. Nobody imagined the brand would be restored and regain recognition. Yezdi trademark ownership is being contested by two parties now that it has a fair business potential. What’s Next? 

Ideal Jawa Employees Association stands to earn greatly as a result of the most recent court decision. Boman Irani and Classic Legends are ordered by the court to pay the Jawa company. There is a chance that the matter may be settled outside of court because a lengthy legal struggle would be harmful to all involved parties.
