Ration Card Latest Update in UP: Recently, the news was spread in UP that the Yogi government has asked ineligible ration card holders to surrender the card. The news also claimed that the government would recover those who did not surrender their ration cards and would take legal action against them.

No order from the UP government
The news of surrendering the ration card spread like fire. Not only this, in many districts there was a long line of beneficiaries to surrender the ration card. On this news, the government clarified that no order has been given by the UP government to surrender or cancel the ration card.

The State Food Commissioner denied the media reports with immediate effect. He also said that no such order has been given by the state government. At the same time, he said that for those who gave such an order, it will be known that continuous action will be taken against him. After this order from the government, such people got a lot of relief were taking free rations from the government through ration cards.

Card verification is a simple process
The Food Commissioner termed the news circulating through various mediums as misleading and false. He said that ration card verification is a normal process. This is done by the government from time to time. It was told by the government that ‘the eligibility/ineligibility criteria for domestic ration cards were laid down in 2014’. No changes were made after that.

Ration card canceled in these situations
On the ground that the ration card holder has a pucca house, electricity connection, or sole weapon license holder or motorcycle owner and is engaged in poultry/cow rearing. Cannot be declared ineligible.

No order on recovery
It was also stated that (as per National Food Security Act-2013) there is no provision for recovery from ineligible card holders. No order has been issued regarding recovery from the government level or the Food Commissioner’s office.
