Run AC for Free This Summer in Delhi! Install Solar System

An 8kW solar system is ideal if you want your air conditioner to run for free every day and night. Although there will be an upfront cost, it will be recouped in five to six years.

In Delhi’s heat, running air conditioning all day will inevitably cause you to perspire when you read your electricity bill. The issue of why not construct a solar system that can run air conditioning for free and eliminate the fear of electricity costs forever keeps coming up in such a scenario.

If you’re wondering the same thing, we’ll explain in plain English how big a solar panel is needed to power a 1.5-ton air conditioner for 24 hours, how much it will cost, and what factors to consider while installing it.

How much electricity does an AC consume in a day?

These days, most air conditioners employ inverter technology. These somewhat lower the amount of electricity used. A 1.5 ton inverter air conditioner uses roughly 1.4 units of power per hour on average.

Now, it will use about 33.6 units of electricity if it is operated for the entire day, or 24 hours. In other words, the solar panel should provide at least 34 units of electricity per day if you want the solar system to handle the full load.

Which solar panel will be so powerful?

Delhi and other places receive plenty of sunlight. Experts estimate that a 1kW solar system here can produce five units of power on average per day. Therefore, you will need to install a system of about 7kW to 7.5kW if you require 34 units each day. An 8kW system would be a good bet to be safe.

How much space will it take?

A minimum of 600 to 700 square feet of open terrace space is required for the installation of an 8kW solar system. It is important to note that the location should get direct sunlight throughout the day in order to maximize electricity production and minimize the enjoyment of air conditioning.

Which solar system to choose?

Although there are primarily three kinds of solar systems, not everyone can benefit from each choice. The first choice is the on-grid system, which has no battery backup and is connected straight to the electrical meter. The price range is approximately ₹4 to ₹4.5 lakh (8kW). For places like Delhi where power outages are uncommon, this is the greatest choice.

A hybrid system, which can store some electricity and has a battery backup option, is an additional choice. It is helpful if there are sporadic power outages in your neighborhood and costs between ₹5.5 and ₹6.5 lakh.

The off-grid solution, which depends entirely on batteries, is the third and priciest alternative. The price range for it is ₹6.5 to ₹7 lakh. This system is helpful in areas with prolonged and frequent power outages, but it is not always feasible due to its high cost and limited power support. All things considered, the on-grid system would be your most cost-effective and ideal choice if you reside in a metropolis like Delhi.

How much will it cost?

The cost of an 8kW on-grid solar system ranges from Rs 4 to Rs 4.5 lakh. The government’s “PM Surya Ghar Yojana” also offers subsidies of up to 20–30%, which will ease the financial strain on you.

What things should be kept in mind?

  • Have your system installed only by a certified installer
  • Get IS-marked panels and inverters
  • Get the panels installed south facing, this will provide more sunlight.

  • Keep cleaning the panels from time to time, so that power generation does not reduce.
  • Do not forget to register for net metering with the electricity department

An 8kW solar system is ideal if you want your air conditioner to run continuously and without charge. There will be a one-time cost, but it will be recouped in five to six years, after which you won’t have to pay electricity bills for years. To ensure that even the heat of Delhi won’t disturb your comfort, stop pondering and start making wise investments.
