Maruti Suzuki, a behemoth in the automotive industry, has experienced a significant setback. This time, Tata has surpassed Maruti Suzuki, which has dominated the best-selling car category for the past 40 years. In terms of sales, Tata’s subcompact SUV, the Tata Punch, broke all previous records in 2024.
In 2024, Tata Motors sold 202,000 Tata Punch cars,
more than the nation’s best-selling Maruti WagonR and Ertiga combined. 190,000 units of each of these models were sold. The unique aspect is that SUVs accounted for three of the top five cars sold in India in 2024, indicating that Indian consumers are increasingly favoring larger automobiles.
In 2021, Tata Punch was introduced.
The Tata Punch was introduced in 2021 and sold 10,000 units in its first month. By 2022, it was the tenth best-selling vehicle in the nation. Customers love this car because of its outstanding ground clearance, modern features, and elegant style. After defeating Hindustan Motors, it rose to the top. In 1985, forty years ago, the Maruti 800 overtook the Hindustan Motors Ambassador as India’s top-selling automobile. Following this, Maruti Suzuki dominated the Indian market for 40 years with the Alto and Swift models. However, Tata overthrew Maruti’s hegemony in 2024 thanks to its inventiveness and strategy.
Other automakers are attempting to
draw clients amid Tata’s outstanding performance. Honda’s new SUV, the Honda Elevate Black Edition, will soon be available in India. This car, which comes in two versions, will go on sale on January 7.
