Coronavirus Omicron in India: Omicron and its sub-variants are believed to be responsible for the increasing cases of corona in the country. Currently, four sub-variants of Omicron are spreading infection in the country.
Coronavirus Omicron in India: Corona infection is increasing rapidly in the country. More than 12 thousand new cases are being reported daily for five consecutive days. The number of active cases has also crossed seven and a half thousand. The infection rate has also come close to 4.5 percent.
Maharashtra, Kerala, and Delhi are being hit the most by the new wave of Corona. Of the new cases in the country, 70 percent of the cases are from these three states. But, what is the reason for the spurt in new cases of corona? So it is because of Omicron and its sub-versions.
Sources associated with the Indian SARS-Covid-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) told the news agency that currently the infection is increasing in the country due to Omicron and its sub-variants BA.2 and BA.2.38. BA.2 is available in 85% of cases and BA.2.38 in 33% of cases. At the same time, BA.4 and BA.5 have been confirmed in less than 10 percent of the cases.
Pune-based BJ Medical College had told the news agency last week that BA.2 is spreading the most in Maharashtra. After that, most patients are getting infected with BA.2.38.
On June 7, a 31-year-old woman was found infected with BA.5 in Pune. On June 13, three patients infected with BA.4 appeared in Mumbai. For the first time in Maharashtra, BA.4 and BA.5 cases were reported on 28 May. Then BA.4 was confirmed in four patients and BA.5 in three.
How much worry, how much relief?
The third wave in India came from Omicron’s BA.2 sub-variant. Its remaining three subtypes BA.2.38, BA.4, and BA.5 are considered more contagious than BA.2. There is also the concern that these sub-variants can re-infect you if you become infected with BA.2.
In addition, a person can become infected with these sub-variants even after being vaccinated. However, it is a matter of relief that after being infected with these sub-variants, there is no serious illness and very few patients require hospitalization.
In India too, many experts are considering this wave of corona as a ‘light wave’. This is because most of the patients do not require hospitalization and have mild symptoms like cold, cold which get better in two to three days.
Dr. NK Arora, president of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI), told the news agency last week that apart from the sub-variant BA.2 BA.4 of Omicron, a new variant of the corona has not yet arrived. and BA.5 are present.
He had told me that travel has increased due to the summer holidays, and travel restrictions have also been removed, due to which the infection is accelerating. He told that the people who are getting infected right now are being vaccinated and they are getting cold-cold and flu-like diseases.
Where is the infection growing?
The weekly cases in the country have been increasing for three weeks. In the week of May 30 to June 5, 25 thousand 586 cases of the corona were reported across the country. Whereas between June 6 and June 12, 48 thousand 766 cases were reported. At the same time, 79 thousand 372 patients have been found between June 13 and 19. This figure of weekly cases is the highest since February.
With the increase in cases, now the death toll has also started increasing in a week. Between 30 May and 5 June, 90 corona patients died in the country. At the same time, 70 people died between 6 and 12 June. Whereas this week. between 13 and 19 June, 102 people lost their lives due to corona.
At the same time, the number of new corona patients is increasing rapidly in almost all the states. In Maharashtra, more than 25 thousand new cases have been reported in a week. In Kerala too, more than 20 and a half thousand infected have been found in a week.
Patients are also increasing in Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. In Delhi, more than 9,200 corona infections have been found in a week. In UP, more than 2700 patients have appeared in a week, and in Haryana more than 2 thousand patients.
Apart from these, more than one thousand new infections have been reported in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal alone in a week. An increase in new cases of the corona has also been registered in Assam, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh.
