The Delhi Metro is used daily by thousands of people. It is also known as Delhi’s lifeblood for this reason. To keep the Delhi Metro current, necessary updates have been made from time to time. Since the metro’s inception, numerous changes have been made in terms of passenger amenities. The Delhi Metro has now made the decision to spare users the inconvenience of spending a lengthy time in the token queue. Delhi Metro has implemented a new ticketing system in response to this. Let us go into detail about it.
The Delhi Metro has introduced a new system of paper tickets with QR codes and tokens for users on all lines.
Paper tickets with QR codes are only available in the token queue. On Monday, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced the launch of this new system.
The token-based approach will be phased out over time by DMRC
after the introduction of paper tickets with QR codes. At the station’s ticket booths, customers can purchase paper tickets with QR codes and tokens for the time being.
Let’s now discuss the crucial guidelines for paper tickets with QR codes.
No station along the route before the destination can be reached using a ticket with a QR code. The traveller must obtain a free exit ticket from the customer service counter if he needs to disembark at any of the intermediate stations.
According to the representative, the DMRC has modified
token or customer service counters and AFC (automated fare collecting) gates to make them compatible. According to DMRC, two AFC gates—one for admission and one for exit—have been upgraded at all stations for QR-based paper tickets.
The passenger will be able to access through the QR ticket (non-refundable) from
the same station from which it is issued and not from any other stations, according to a statement from DMRC. The traveller must enter the metro station within 60 minutes of receiving this ticket, according to the speaker, and if he is unable to do so, the ticket will become invalid.
The AFC gates won’t open, however, and the passenger will be required to pay
the additional fee if he or she wants to disembark before arriving at his or her scheduled station. Officials stated that mobile photos or copies of paper tickets with QR codes will not be accepted, and that passengers who have these items will be considered to be “without tickets” and will be punished accordingly.
The practise of distributing tokens will be gradually phased out
according to Metro’s announcement, when these more open, unmanned, and cashless solutions are implemented. By the end of May, according to officials, the metro also plans to use mobile-based QR ticketing. The Airport Express line currently offers a mobile-based QR ticketing system. By the end of June, DMRC intends to modify ticket vending machines so that they may dispense paper tickets with QR codes as well as make all AFC gates QR code compliant.
