New Delhi. Toyota is soon going to launch a new compact SUV in India. Recently, the company released the teaser of this upcoming car.
Amidst rising petrol-diesel prices and increasing inclination of automobile manufacturers toward electric vehicles, Toyota recently launched the ‘Hum Hai Hybrid’ campaign. The campaign aims to promote Toyota’s self-charging hybrid powertrain technology. As part of the campaign, Toyota has shared a teaser on Twitter, which indicates that the launch of the new self-charging SUV is on the way.
Name not disclosed
According to Motorbeam, the upcoming SUV has been codenamed D22 due to lack of information. The car is likely to get Toyota’s popular SHEV (Self-Charging Hybrid Electric Vehicle). The car is primarily powered by an electric engine, while the engine is used to charge the battery. To improve fuel efficiency in SHEV, the engine is run at a constant speed.

SHEV’s system consists of an electric motor, an engine, and a nickel-metal hydride battery pack. What sets it apart from plug-in hybrid vehicles is that the battery does not need to be charged from an external source. The D22 will also get its Maruti Suzuki version. As part of the partnership between the two companies, Toyota launched Maruti Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza and Baleno in the form of Urban Cruiser and Glanza.

Now, D22
Manufactured by Toyota, Maruti Suzuki is expected to bring significant changes to the car instead of just changing its badge. Toyota may unveil the car in June this year. The Japanese automaker claims that up to 60 percent of its SHEV can be driven in pure EV (electric vehicle) mode. Apart from this, its fuel efficiency increases by 40 to 80 percent.
