Alien Fish Pics: A new species of fish found in an Arctic iceberg has surprised researchers. These fish have bright eyes. Scientists told that due to the anti-freeze protein present in the blood of these fish, their color is bright green. David Gruber, a researcher at the American Museum of Natural History and a professor of biology at the City University of New York’s Baruch College, led the study on these fish.
Bright-eyed fish
The snail was one of the few species of fish that lived in the crevices of icebergs. Surprisingly, such a small fish can live in such a cold environment. Gruber said antifreeze proteins stick to the surface of small ice crystals and slow or stop them from growing into larger, more dangerous, crystals.
Why do the eyes of these fish glow?
He explained that fish from both the north and south poles have evolved these proteins. These studies in Greenland have shown that evolutionary changes are occurring in marine creatures. The brightness is thought to be a feature developed by the species to maintain body temperature in the harsh conditions of the Arctic region.
