Five Dangerous Bacteria: An article in The Lancet claims that more than 6.8 lakh individuals in India have died as a result of infections brought on by the five germs E. coli, SPpneumonia, K.pneumonia, S. aureus, and A. baumannii. While E. coli caused 1.6 lakh deaths.

Five bacteria, including E. coli, SPpneumonia, K. pneumonia, S. aureus, and A. baumannii, are among the deadliest infections in India, according to a paper in The Lancet. Infections brought on by these 5 bacteria reportedly killed more than 6.8 lakh people in India in 2019 while E. coli, which is linked to diarrhea and pneumonia, only resulted in a maximum of 1.6 lakh fatalities. SP pneumonia claimed the lives of 1.4 lakh persons, K pneumonia claimed the lives of 1.3 lakh, S aureus claimed the lives of 1.2 lakh, and A. baumannii took the lives of 1.1 lakh.

The 2019 figure is scary.

Based on 33 species of deaths from bacterial illness, this Lancet report. According to this research, bacterial infections caused 13.7 fatalities in India in 2019. In addition to the five bacterial illnesses listed above, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhi, and non-typhoid Salmonella are also known to cause fatalities.

Similar issues are being faced by other countries as well.

These bacteria are not just killing people in India; they are also killing people in other nations. According to the Lancet report, 13 million people worldwide die each year from infections. Moreover, half of the deaths in this were caused by 5 microorganisms.

This new information, according to Dr. Christopher Murray, co-author, and director of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington, has exposed bacterial infections as a major threat to global public health for the first time.
