Coronavirus Omicron Mutation: New cases and deaths have been declining since peaking in January, but experts have expressed concern that there could be another mutation in Omicron next month.
Coronavirus Omicron Mutation: Corona infection from China remains a disaster even after two and a half years. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 37 lakh cases of corona have been reported worldwide and 9 thousand deaths occurred last week. However, the WHO also said that new cases and deaths of corona have been decreasing since the peak in January.
According to the WHO, cases of corona are increasing in only two regions of the world, America and the Western Pacific. At the same time, the death toll in the Middle East has increased by 30 percent. Elsewhere, corona infection is either stable or cases are decreasing.
The WHO said that all sub-variants of Omicron are being tracked as ‘Variants of Concern’. The agency said that in countries where there was a new wave due to BA.2, the effect of BA.4 and BA.5 has been less.
Salim Abdul Karim, an infectious disease specialist at the University of KwaZulu-Natal University in Durban, told the news agency that the new wave of BA.4 and BA.5 in South Africa seems to have stopped. In November last year, the first case of Omicron was reported in South Africa itself.
Karim has expressed fears that there may be a mutation in Omicron in June. He said that since there have been many mutations in the omicron so far, there is a possibility that there could be more mutations in it.
Things are still getting worse in China
In China, the situation is still getting worse due to Corona. There are still crores of people living there under some kind of restriction. Meanwhile, authorities in the capital Beijing have ordered staff and students to stay at home. Along with this, mass testing will also start there from Monday.
The movement of people has been stopped in many residential areas of Beijing. Although the lockdown is as strict as in Shanghai, there is no such restriction in other cities yet. Millions of people have been living under strict restrictions in Shanghai for the past two months.
China is still insisting on the ‘Zero Covid Policy’. At the same time, WHO has said that the zero covid policy is not very effective to prevent corona infection.
