This news is for you if you bring alcohol within the Delhi Metro. The metro’s policy regarding alcohol has been modified. On Wednesday, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) modified its policy regarding alcohol. According to DMRC, enabling passengers to bring two sealed bottles of alcohol on the Delhi Metro will be subject to the excise laws of the relevant state. Let us remind you that the Delhi government objected to the DMRC’s allowance of two sealed bottles of alcohol per person in metro trains last year, citing violations of state excise laws.
Delhi Metro’s Alcohol Regulations
In the National Capital Region (NCR), metro trains connect Delhi with places like Faridabad and Gurgaon in Haryana and Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida) in Uttar Pradesh. DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar said that whatever the Delhi government has authorized us to do is allowed. The excise rules of that state apply. A senior official of the Excise Department said that according to the Excise Act, only one sealed bottle of liquor like rum, vodka, and whiskey can.
The amount of alcohol permitted in the Delhi Metro
An official from the excise department stated that since metro trains transport people between Delhi and NCR cities like Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, and Faridabad, it would be illegal for anyone to take more than two sealed bottles on board. Anuj Dayal, the chief executive director of DMRC, stated, “We are not disclosing the quantity of bottles—one or two.” Given that we operate in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana, the state’s excise laws will be applicable.
According to the DMRC,
travelers on metro trains are obliged to abide by the state excise department’s current rules and regulations on the carrying of alcohol while traveling across international borders. If a customer boards the train, he stated with two bottles of liquor from Delhi and is going towards Uttar Pradesh, then he should understand that he has two bottles as per the excise rules of that state. Therefore, if only one bottle of liquor is allowed, then he should carry only one bottle. The Excise Department of the Delhi Government sent a notice to the DMRC last year after it allowed passengers to carry two sealed bottles of liquor on the metro train. Earlier, carrying liquor was banned on Delhi Metro trains except the Airport Express Line.
