Indian Army’s 75th Infantry Day: Today, October 27, is the Indian Army’s 75th “Infantry Day,” also known as Infantry Day. On this date in 1947, the Sikh Regiment of the Army used a special Dakota aircraft of the Air Force to land in Srinagar and liberate Jammu and Kashmir from the control of the Pakistani army and tribals. Because of this, the Indian Army observes October 27 as “Infantry Day” every year. All of the Infantry Regiment’s senior army officers, including CDS General Anil Chauhan, will pay respects at the National War Memorial on this day.

Starting at 11 a.m. today, the Infantry Day attraction will be visible at the airport in Srinagar. There will be a replica of the Budgam landing during this time. Together, the Army and the Air Force will observe Shaurya Diwas. Both Army Chief General Manoj Pandey and Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will be present. All of the Infantry Regiment’s senior army officers, including CDS General Anil Chauhan, will pay tribute at the National War Memorial on this day.

Rajnath Singh also offered his congratulations to the Indian Army on Infantry Day. He congratulated the brave infantrymen and their families and sent them his best wishes. The Indian infantry has a reputation for having incredible bravery and professionalism. The country honors their valor, selflessness, and dedication.

Why do we celebrate Infantry Day?

After India gained its independence on October 26, 1947, Jammu and Kashmir were formally incorporated into India. The Jammu and Kashmiri Raja Hari Singh signed the Instrument of Accession to India. On October 27, 1947, the Indian Army finally touched down at Budgam Airport; this day is now known as “Infantry Day.” It was also officially proclaimed to be a part of the Indian Union a few years later, in 1956.

Why does the Indian Army find it special?

Pakistan had intended to absorb Kashmir when it gained independence. When Pakistan dispatched 5000 tribal fighters into Kashmir on October 22, 1947, the then-ruler of Kashmir, Maharaja Hari Singh, requested assistance from the Indian government. Following this, Maharaja Hari Singh formally merged Jammu and Kashmir into India.

The 1st Battalion of the Sikh Regiment of the Army then flew a squad of infantrymen from Delhi to Srinagar. Indian foot soldiers conquered Kashmir from tribal control on October 27, 1947. This is the rationale behind the commemoration of infantrymen known as “Infantry Day.”
