The new traceability criteria have been agreed to be implemented by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). These rules are effective as of right now, December 1. Although these restrictions are meant to strengthen customer security and prevent spam and fraudulent messages, some people believe that they are the cause of crucial messages like OTP (One-Time Password) being delayed.
All messaging service providers
and telecom carriers will be required by these rules to verify the legitimacy and origin of each message. The Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) system, which was implemented to enhance message traceability and combat spam, is the framework for all of these actions. Businesses must register their message templates and sender ID (header) with the telecom operator under this. If a message does not match the registered template or header, it can be blocked or flagged.
What is said by TRAI?
In a recent post, TRAI stated that there would be no delays in OTP messages due to the new criteria. TRAI refuted media reports that suggested the new regulations would delay the distribution of OTPs. “This information is incorrect,” they say. We’ll make sure the message’s traceability doesn’t become delayed.” OTP messages are essential for safe login, authentication, and online transactions. Service providers will need to make sure that OTP messages adhere to the registered template and headers under the new regulations. There can be a small delay as a result.
Transition Period
Message processing may occasionally stop working for companies making the switch to a DLT system. All OTPs must now go through a verification process, which may cause a slight delay in delivery during peak times. In this manner, you can remain secure.
- Update your contact information: Verify that all of the services are accurately associated with your cellphone number.
- Use app-based authentication: If at all possible, establish an app-based authentication backup plan for OTP.
- Be patient: As companies and telecom carriers get used to the new system, there can be some delays at first, but things will get better.
Secure messaging will be provided.
These TRAI standards are a significant step in developing a more secure messaging system for customers, notwithstanding the possibility of some initial issues. This technique will aid in the prevention of fraudulent and spam messages. There can be a small OTP delay as companies and telecom providers adhere to the new regulations, but over time, the protection it offers will be beneficial.
