The 16th IPL 2024 match between the Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders took place at Visakhapatnam on April 3. KKR played first and scored 272 runs. In addition to Sunil Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s half-centuries, Andre Russell’s explosive 41-run innings helped Kolkata reach a high score. Delhi Capitals had a terrible start when chasing the goal, from which they were unable to recover till the very end. Despite a half-century performance of 54 runs from DC skipper Rishabh Pant and 55 runs from Tristan Stubbs, the team lost by 106 runs.
In IPL history, KKR holds the second-highest score.
For KKR, Phil Salt and Sunil Narine opened the innings. Even though Salt only managed to score 18 runs before he had to return to the pavilion, Sunil Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi went on to put up 104 runs for the second wicket. On the one hand, Narine scored 85 runs in 39 balls during a furious inning that featured seven fours and seven sixes. In contrast, Angkrish made 54 runs off of just 27 balls during his IPL debut. In this inning, he hit three sixes and five fours. Andre Russell scored 41 runs in the final overs, and Rinku Singh also made a significant impact with a cameo inning of 26 runs in 8 balls. Kolkata defeated Delhi’s bowlers by scoring 135 runs in the first 10 overs and 137 runs in the last 10 overs.
KKR’s dominance in bowling
Kolkata Knight Riders continued to dominate in bowling in addition to batting. In his four overs, Varun Chakraborty claimed three wickets for 33 runs. Mitchell Starc also started his IPL 2024 wicket total at the same moment. In three overs, he claimed two wickets for 25 runs. Vaibhav Arora, who got three wickets for 27 runs in four overs, also made an impression. Additionally, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine both claimed one wicket.
