The launch of the Lek Ladki Yojana for females has received approval from the Maharashtra Cabinet. The implementation of this plan will begin on April 1, 2023. Manisha Kayande, the leader of the Shiv Sena, claimed that with this choice, it was agreed that the daughter should receive financial assistance from the moment of her birth. The government’s goal with the programme is to assist low-income families with orange and yellow ration cards. Let us inform you that families in the state who earn between Rs 15,000 and Rs 1 lakh annually are given orange ration cards. In contrast, urban areas issue yellow ration cards to people making Rs. 15,000. The programme will initially provide the family with financial support in the amount of Rs 5,000 upon the birth of a girl child. For the second time, the family will receive Rs 6,000 when the girl enters class 1 and Rs 7,000 when she enters class 6.
Upon turning 18, a gift of Rs 75,000 will be made
Similarly, Rs 8,000 would be provided at entry to class 9 and Rs 75,000 would be granted upon turning 18 years old. According to the programme, the girl and her family will receive a total of Rs. 100,000. 2.56 crore families have ration cards, according to the Maharashtra Economic Survey 2023. 1.71 crore of these have orange cards, while 62.60 lakh have yellow ration cards. The programme will provide advantages to these families.
We will educate and empower girls
According to Kayande, families with yellow or orange ration cards frequently have to make compromises regarding their daughters’ education because of a lack of funds. Girls will receive education and empowerment as a result of the government’s decision. Aditi Tatkare, minister for the child welfare department, announced that the state government has launched a programme to empower girls. Due to the constant flow of suggestions for this scheme, it took a little longer to implement. But this has now gotten cabinet clearance. Additionally, female feticide and school dropouts will decline as a result of this.
