Soon, the Mahindra Thar 2WD SUV will be introduced in India. Prior to its formal launch, the nation’s top SUV manufacturer updated its official brochure with information about the new edition of the Thar off-road SUV. Those wishing to purchase the legendary off-roader will find the Mahindra Thar 2WD model to be a more economical choice. Mahindra won’t include 4X4 drive features on this less expensive model. Instead, a rear-wheel drive with a gasoline and diesel engine will be used.
Colour Themes
Three additional colours will be available for the new Thar SUV. These colours include Aquamarine, Blazing Bronze, and Everest White. Along with the other three options—Red Rage, Napoli Black, and Galaxy Grey—, these colours are also available.
Fashion and Design
The Mahindra Thar 2WD (Rear-Wheel Drive) variant doesn’t look or feel much different from the Thar 4WD version. The absence of 4X4 badging is the only exterior visual change. The interior is unchanged as well, with no separate gearbox for handling the off-road sections.
Features
The hard-top version of the new Mahindra Thar SUV model will be unveiled. Additionally, it will include an electronic brake locking differential, ESP with roll-over prevention, and rear-wheel drive-only safety features including hill hold and hill descent control. The size of the wheels will be selectable between 16-inch steel wheels and 18-inch alloy wheels.

The new Thar 2WD SUV will be offered in the AX Opt and LX trim levels. A 1.5-litre D117 CRDe diesel engine is included with the SUV. This engine has a maximum output of 117 horsepower and a maximum torque of 300 Nm. There will only be a 6-speed manual transmission available with this engine. The 2.0-litre medallion 150 TGDi engine will be used in the petrol version. This engine produces the same 150 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque as the diesel version. The 6-speed manual or 6-speed AT gearboxes are available for the petrol engine.
Competition and Cost
The Thar RWD (Thar RWD) variant’s launch date has not been disclosed by Mahindra & Mahindra. It may, however, be introduced in the upcoming days. Due to tax advantages, the Mahindra Thar 2WD is anticipated to cost at least Rs 1 lakh less than the existing Thar model.
Expected Cost
Mahindra Thar 2WD is anticipated to cost between Rs. 11 and Rs. 14 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with the future Maruti Suzuki Jimny, which is anticipated to come in a five-door design with 2WD and 4WD variants.
