According to Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority Commissioner Manoj Rajan, the epicenter of the quake was Maluganahalli village under Nagaranahalli gram panchayat in Holenarasipura taluk of Hassan district.
He said that as per the earthquake intensity map from the epicenter, the intensity observed is moderate and the tremor can be felt up to a maximum radial distance of 40-50 kms from the epicenter.
“This type of earthquake does not cause any damage to the local community, although there may be minor tremors at the local level. Since the epicenter of the earthquake lies in the Seismic Zone-II, the probability of occurrence of an earthquake is very less and the probability of damage is less it occurs.
Since the region is devoid of any structural imbalance as per the tectonic map, there is no need for the community to panic as the intensity observed is moderate and not destructive,” explained the commissioner.
