You will no longer be able to access Bike Taxi from Delhi. In Delhi, the Arvind Kejriwal administration has issued an order to shut down the bike taxi offered by Rapido, Ola, & Uber. Because of alleged violations of the regulations. In a circular published by Delhi Transport Department, strict actions have been outlined for riders who carry passengers on their bikes. In the circular that if you are not complying the person will be fined a substantial amount. And be handed to the suspect and his driving license could be removed.
10 thousand rupees could be penalized.
According to the notice released by the Delhi government. As per the Motor Vehicle Act 1988, taking passengers on any kind of two-wheeler is an egregious violation. If a person is caught doing this and convicted. The person will be required to pay an amount of one thousand rupees and Rs 10,000 for the second. If the fine isn’t paid, the result will be an imprisonment sentence that can be up to a year & vehicle can be confiscated.
A penalty of Rs. 1 Lakh for the aggregator.
Before putting out this warning in the first place. The Kejriwal government issued a caution for Rapido, Ola, & Uber to operate bike taxis in the city without authorization. The government had stated that transporting passengers on a bike-scooter (Bike Taxi) is a violation of the Motor Vehicle Act. For which a fine of up to 1 lakh could be assessed to the aggregator or the company that runs the service. Additionally, the license of the driver operating the bike-scooter could also be suspended for a period of 3 months.
The issue has been currently going across a variety of states.
There’s a fight between the various state governments and the companies that run it over operating bike taxis without authorization. It was reported that the Maharashtra government had stopped the Rapido company from running bikes without permission. Rapido then applied for permission from the government. However, the state government denied the request, claiming it was a breach of rules. The company then made a request to the Supreme Court. It was later decided that the Supreme Court refused to relieve the company from this issue.
The other states may also make the decision
Today, as a result of the ban placed on the three big bike taxi firms from the Delhi government and the Delhi government, it is expected that similar difficult decisions may be made from other states too. Additionally, the concerns regarding the bike taxi could become more vocal. In 2019 amendments were made to the Motor Vehicles Act, which also the provision that an aggregate could operate without having a valid license.
