Given the growing number of cyberfraud cases, the government is taking a stricter stand. The guidelines for acquiring SIM have been modified as of January 1. Although people have been defrauded repeatedly by using phony SIM cards, the government anticipates that this will stop with the new year. Fake SIM cards will now be prohibited by the new rule regarding purchases.

When fake SIM cards will not be issued, cyber fraud and scams continuously being run through fake SIM cards will be curbed.

If a future case involving an act of fraud against an individual comes to light, the government-instituted NIA will now additionally monitor the SIM card sellers, and the seller will also be required to provide information about the SIM card sale point. If provided, the SIM cell point will be useful in assisting with the investigation of that issue.

The paper states that franchisees, and distributors. Point-of-sale agents will all need to register themselves under the new SIM card regulations that go into effect on January 1, 2024. If they don’t, they won’t be allowed to make sales. Telecom dealers and agents will have up to one year time to complete the registration process.
