Exams for Inter-First Year Students: Reducing students’ academic stress and aligning the curriculum with national standards are the primary drivers of this choice.
Inter-board exams will no longer be administered to intermediate students starting in the upcoming academic year, according to a statement released today by the Board of Intermediate Education, Andhra Pradesh (BIE AP). The goal is to align the state with other boards, such the CBSE and other state boards, that do not administer board examinations for Class 11. The plan is the result of careful consideration of the advice and recommendations made by teachers, parents, students, and others.
Why did BIEAP decide to cancel AP Inter 1st Year exams?
Reducing students’ academic stress and aligning the curriculum with national standards are the primary drivers of this choice.
The statement issued in this regard said, “Except Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, no other major state is conducting board examinations for Inter First Year.”
Additionally, it stated that the majority of schools and universities solely use the results of the class 12 board exams as a criterion for admission, and they do not take into account the results of inter-first-year exams.
Individual junior colleges will be in charge of both internal and external evaluation during the first year. Second-year intermediate students will continue to take public exams administered by the board. Additionally, the administration has asked for comments and ideas regarding these measures; the deadline is January 26.
Syllabus and Textbook Revision for AP Intermediate
The existing intermediate education course has to be revised because it hasn’t been updated in a while, according to BIE AP. 14 committees have been established to update the course materials and textbooks in order to address this issue.
For first-year intermediate students starting in the academic year 2025–2026, the board has emphasized the necessity of introducing NCERT texts to advance their knowledge.
According to NCERT rules, the updated syllabus will be in sync with JEE and NEET norms.
