Eligibility to become an ED officer

To become an officer in the ED, one must meet this requirement.

A degree from any accredited institution in any field is required of those hoping to join the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as officers. Regarding the age limit, it has been set at a maximum of 27 to 30 years old, with a minimum of 18 years old. However, based on the posts, this age restriction may vary. Apart from this, candidates in the reserved category are granted a specific concession in the maximum age limit.

Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers are paid according to the Seventh Pay Commission’s grade. An ED officer’s monthly pay currently ranges from Rs 44,990 to Rs 1,42,400, though this can change according on the position and level of expertise.

How to Become an ED officer

The selection procedure for becoming an ED officer is as follows:

The initial step in becoming an officer in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is for the candidate to take the annual CGL (Combined Graduate Level) exam administered by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC). There are four levels to this test:

  • Tier 1: The exam is computer-based. Candidates must respond to questions about general studies, math, reasoning, etc. at this point.
  • Tier 2: In this computer-based test, candidates must respond to questions pertaining to particular disciplines.
  • Tier 3: The candidate’s writing skills and subject knowledge are evaluated through a written exam.
  • Tier 4: This is a data entry test that evaluates the candidate’s typing speed and data entry skills.

Based on the candidate’s performance in each of these four-tier exams, a final list is created. According to their rank, the candidates on this final list are appointed as Enforcement Directorate officers.
