Wintertime sees an upsurge in traffic accident incidents. Fog is the cause of this. Fog on the roads causes a reduction in visibility. If there is a high danger of a collision in this scenario, it is because the vehicles are traveling at a fast pace. For this reason, the Yamuna Expressway speed limit has been lowered. The speed limit for light vehicles (cars, etc.) has been raised to 75 kmph, and for heavy vehicles (trucks, buses, etc.), it has been increased to 60 kmph, due to the potential for accidents caused by fog and mist. This speed restriction will be in effect from December 15, 2023, to February 15, 2024.

Yamuna Expressway lowered its speed restriction

A challan will be given to any car going faster than the posted speed limit. Yamuna Motorway has cameras positioned in several locations for this purpose. We would like to inform you that the overspending challan is Rs 2000. Arun Veer Singh, the chief executive officer of the Yamuna Motorway Industrial Development Authority, reportedly stated in a Hindustan Times article that “driving a little safer is achieved by reducing the speed.” For the protection of the traveling public, we have raised the Yamuna Expressway’s speed restriction for both light and heavy vehicles.” Reducing it has been decided.”

Fog-related accidents on the Yamuna Expressway

Fog has already caused numerous serious accidents on this motorway. On January 10, 2023, seven cars collided on the Mathura motorway at the same time due to fog, injuring 24 persons. On January 9, 2023, two cars crashed at the same time on the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida, injuring six persons, including two children. Numerous more accidents have also occurred in addition to this one.

One of the most frequent reasons for traffic accidents is speeding. Because of the increased impact from high speed, there is a higher chance of death in accidents resulting from overspeeding. While overspeeding, the car could lose control of itself. When driving too fast, one has less time to use the brakes, and if they are not applied effectively, a crash will happen. Overspeeding will need to be avoided to prevent all of these scenarios.
