WhatsApp recently made changes to the way its chat backups are made. Your chats would have been automatically stored, but now they will occupy space in your Google Drive. This implies that for your chats to be backed up, you will now need to make room in your Google Drive. You’ll need to either buy a larger Google Drive plan or delete certain files if you don’t have enough space.
The backup chat for WhatsApp will be kept on Google Drive.
WhatsApp will now back up your discussions in Google Drive, regardless of whether you have a subscription or free Google Drive account. Also, that is located in the storage space connected to the Gmail account that is connected to your WhatsApp. In other words, except for supporting Google Photos, Gmail, and other apps, now your WhatsApp backup will also take up less space on your Google Drive.
You can end now in this manner.
However, you can disable chat backups if you don’t have a premium Google Drive account, use WhatsApp beta, or don’t want your chat backups to take up your whole Google Drive. You can move all of your WhatsApp conversations from your old phone to your new phone by using the “Chat Transfer” feature when you get a new phone. Though it’s not necessary to have internet access, conversation transfers only function when both phones are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. If not, you can buy additional Drive storage.
Another way is to back up your
WhatsApp chat history without including pictures and videos, as these would make the backup much larger. To check if your WhatsApp chats are backed up:
- Launch WhatsApp.
- Press the trio of dots (…) located in the upper-right corner.
- Select “Settings” in step three.
- Option 4: Click on “Chats”.
- Press “Backup” in step five.
Android users
are now able to access the conversation backup feature that iPhone users previously had access to in iCloud. Indeed, WhatsApp now allows users on Android devices to store their communications in Drive for safekeeping. That is to say, after you install WhatsApp on the new phone, everything you have previously stored will be safe and accessible in Drive.
